Hi. My name is Damien.
I'm a 33 year old recent graduate with a B.S. in IT. I live in Colorado Springs, CO. I'm still trying to put my degree to use (i.e. looking for a better job).

About a year ago, I met my girlfriend G, right here on lj. She was diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder in 2003, but had been living with it for 10 years prior. She currently takes Lithium, Abilify, and Lamictal, and sees a psychiatrist and therapist monthly. She showed this community to me.

She completes me, like no one else ever has. I can't imagine my life without her. The biggest difficulty in our relationship is the distance. She lives in CT. My current financial and living situation is preventing us from meeting. I'm trying to be as supportive for her as I can, but it's hard. She has auditory hallucinations. The voices tell her to hurt herself and that I don't love her. I tell her that I want to be stronger than the voices. That things will be better. I'm not saying that i can fix her, but I have hope that they will be better when I am able to bring her out here.

Welcome! I understand the distance thing being extra hard. My girlfriend and I lived in two different states for the first year and a half of our relationship. I remember all too well the increase in the feeling of helplessness when I couldn't even be there to hug her when things went bad. It really can be hard. I hope you two can be together geographically soon. :)
